The City of Fort Myers Solid Waste Division is responsible for the overall collection of the City’s municipal solid waste (MSW) better known as trash and garbage. The Solid Waste Division provides for the collection and transportation for disposal of all solid waste generated in the service area as shown in the following map.
The Solid Waste Division collects and transports for disposal once a week all municipal solid waste, single-stream recycling and horticulture to the Lee County Resource Recovery Facility located at 10500 Buckingham Road.
The City’s single-stream recycling items are being temporarily transported to Waste Management, Inc., Single Stream Recycling Facility in Pembroke Pines, Florida until the completion and full operation of the newly, state-of-the-art, Lee County Material Recovery Facility located adjacent to the Lee County Waste-To-Energy Facility.
Effective Monday, April 6th residential and commercial garbage can collection will change to one pick-up per week. This change affects customers who use garbage cans only!
By changing garbage can collection to one time a week, the City reduces fuel cost, maintenance costs and vehicle emissions while continuing to provide increased services such as recycling.
RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE COLLECTION What does this change mean for residential garbage can customers? Additional garbage cans will add over $7 to your monthly bill. To avoid this cost, you can use this opportunity to recycle more and throw away less. Call the City of Fort Myers Solid Waste Division at 239-321-8100 to request FREE your choice of an 18-gallon recycle bin or a 65-gallon recycle container on wheels.
COMMERCIAL GARBAGE COLLECTION What does this change mean for commercial garbage can customers? Commercial customers who normally fill more than one 90-gallon container can subscribe to a small dumpster or a second 90-gallon garbage can. Please contact the Solid Waste offices to determine the proper level of service required.
Residential Garbage/Recycling and Commercial Garbage Cans will be picked up on the following days in the following areas as listed below. Residential recycling will be collected on the same day as garbage and all recyclable materials can go in the same recycling container.
